Products are what the business sells, but how is up to the marketing department. The marketing department is responsible for the planning and execution of the conceptual product or service, how to price and promote it, and how to distribute it to your consumers or clients. Anyone can make a saleable good, like a phone, or food, but marketing is how it makes it out to the public, and starts to really get business money flowing, and a return on the capital of investing in a business. This training course is therefore set to train your workers to perform marketing to the best of their ability.

Improving basic marketing skills can help any staff member improve in their sales, advertising and even writing skills. Our trainers can provide information on a range of marketing skills and show first hand experience to participants. We have activities such as writing a newspaper advert, making a 5 min pitch and improving influence using specific wording. If you would like to learn more about marketing for your role then this course is for you.

Know the Product and Worth

It goes without saying that the most knowledgeable person about a certain product or service should be the person selling it: that is, everyone in the company selling a good or service. Make sure that you know all the ins and outs of your product: side effects, tricks to use, effective usage, durability, duration, ingredients, assembly process, and more. It does not bode well for business for a client to ask specific details about a product or service, and then be answered with a blank stare. You need to know what is good about your product: you should know all of its features, advantages, and effects, know everything that makes it saleable. Getting caught lying about anything related to your product can be a deathblow to any business, so know your product well enough to be able to answer any question about it honestly.

Another thing to consider about knowing the product is that you have to know what it is worth. Pricing is critical in marketing: set it too high, and people won’t buy it, but if you set it too low, you won’t turn a profit against your overhead expenses. It is important to make sure that whatever your business sells doesn’t make diminishing returns, or bankruptcy can hit the company. For some client demographics, the first thing they see will be the qualities of the item. For other demographics, the first thing they see will be the price. Ideally, your product or service should be capable of appealing to both demographics: people who can afford to disregard the height of cost, and those who can’t. This is why clients weigh the quality of your product against its cost, and you do too: it would be a very poor trade for a customer, for example, to pay $20 for three pieces of sushi you sold that were of average quality, and the customer who realises this will not return. Worse, they will tell those they meet that the sushi was of mediocre quality, and that can seriously diminish your business’ reputation and clientele. Sell and advertise the product like it’s the greatest thing on Earth, but price it as if you yourself were going to buy it. We provide a session and lectures on knowing your product and worth.

Place Ads, and Set Up Shop

While we’re on the subject of advertisement, promotion is a key factor to public awareness that your product is available, and that it is well worth their time and money. Effective promotion is all about persuasion, and effective persuasion is about making sure that your customer won’t want to say no. Making a sweet deal is what the smart shopper lives for, and if you can make them feel or think like they got a great bargain, then your product will sell that much easier. Overpricing is instant death to any effective promotion; if there is physical evidence that your product quality is a lot lower than the price you set, your promotions team will have an uphill battle trying to get people to buy your product. Make their job easier, and your income higher, by setting reasonable and affordable prices, and setting up for executing marketing techniques like discounts or seasonal events for your products. For example, fast food restaurants place special deals on days like their founding anniversary, and while they hold either the same overhead expenses per day, or raise it slightly higher, the number of sales they make that day because of a good promotional deal far outweigh any costs to their operation, turning them a massive profit. Location should also be mentioned. It shouldn’t need to be said that if it is really difficult to reach your shop or business, then the proportion of sales you won’t get is equal to that difficulty. Make sure that you’re easily reachable by your target clientele. For example, cheap fast food restaurants like to set up near schools. Their food is cheap, fast, and it isn’t hard to access it from a student’s perspective. This means they turn up plenty of profit just from their student clientele, not counting any others who patronise them, and that is all because they’re selling the right product in the right location. Even how your place looks can be a promotion, making your branding obvious, and making a place known for being your business’ location. That tends to bode well for most businesses. Other examples and activities help teams develop these skills.

Marketing Basics Training Summary

It is important to be able to sell a product or service efficiently and capably, and this is only really possible with a good marketing team. The ability to use the right words and numbers to sway the will of consumers into buying your product or service is absolutely critical to the success of any business or company, because that is how people know about you; it is not often that the first time someone knows about your company is seeing your business, and deciding to experience it on the spot first-hand. It is typically heard about second-hand from accounts spoken by other people who have already experienced your product first-hand, or otherwise think that your promotion is attractive. These methods will train workers to market their product or service with full knowledge about it, to price it extremely well, to place their shop in the right place, and to persuade the clientele well. This training is essential to performing the little things that build the company’s public relationship and selling your company’s product or service. This pairs well with sessions about public relations, persuasion, and strategic thinking. If you wish to know about our other training courses and services, please contact us.
