About Employee Onboarding Training Sessions
The newly hired employee always has to figure out how to get adjusted to the workplace he or she is a part of now. Part of that adjustment process is how the company itself introduces the newly hired employees into the culture and processes of the business. This is how the employees are educated on the necessary knowledge, skills, and behaviours that will make them effective, and productive team members. This extremely important formation can be the difference between keeping a good employee, and being able to tell which ones are not quite as receptive. This training course is therefore set to train your team members to be effective at getting newly hired employees on board with your company and its agendas.
The key to a successful employee onboarding experience is to do the mechanical aspect of educating the new hires about what they are getting into, while also doing the more abstract aspects of socialising with them outside of work and portraying the company as a familiar place they can dedicate their life to, as so much more than a workplace. It is clearly proven that successful employee onboarding executions bring much higher chances of loyalty, and much lower chances of employee turnover. Every company would do well to remember that their most valuable resource is never their product, but their employees, and keeping them well educated, familiar, and welcome is always in the company’s best interests. These methods will train your team members to prepare the new hire’s workspace, tour them through the office and its culture, and socialise with them outside of work.
This training course is essential to increasing company loyalty among your employees, and making it much more attractive to join your team. This pairs well with sessions about human resources, socialisation, and company expectations. If you wish to know about our other training courses and services, please contact us. Prepare the Workspace
The very first thing any good employee onboarding procedure has to do is make sure that the environment the newly hired employees will enter is well prepared, and welcoming. It is highly recommended to have the employees’ desks prepared with all the necessary tools and equipment they will need to properly execute their company function. Further, telling them what tools they’ll have, how to use them specifically for the company, and how to get more if they need it is a good step towards showing the new hires that they are well provided for, while giving a quick tutorial on the various tools they’ll have to work with. This is the first, most basic mechanic to employee onboarding: introducing them to their new work environment. However, that is just for the physical workspace. There is still the cyber workspace to consider; the company’s onboarding team should help the newly hired employees set up the appropriate accounts, email groups, and train them in the office’s basic email etiquette. For example, if Craig is a new hire, the company’s team should introduce him to his new workstation, and set up all the necessary paperwork and accounts for him to begin.
Tour Them Through the Zoo
We don’t mean the literal zoo. This means to tour them through the rest of the office and help them discover the various cultures, the multiple office flora and fauna that they’ll encounter as part of their stay with the company. Tour them to see the printing area, the café, and the workrooms. Introduce them to the various people who work for the company, and get them acquainted with basic need-to-know bits of information about them so they can get on board with the rest of the company’s team that much easier. Other things they need to know include their working hours, how they can get into or out of the office, the company’s dress code; essentially, everything they need to know to establish your expectations of them and their workflow in your company. The company’s HR department typically covers this information. An example of a good tour through the office involves familiarisation with the geographical details of the office’s area, introduction to the administration and immediate teammates in the company, and establishing the necessary expectations for the behaviour of the newly hired employees for the company. Their tour through the office zoo should be educational, engaging, and made of all the essential bits and bobs they need to make your company proud.
Socialisation while sharing a meal is always an important thing to be able to do, no matter which company you work for. However, the socialisation should never be about work during that time. Meal time is one of the few hours in a working day where a person, especially the new hire, can stop working for a while, take a break, relax, and recreate before getting back to it. It is imperative for the onboarding team to invite the new guys and girls to have lunch in the lunchroom with their teammates. There isn’t much that builds camaraderie, good social skills, and office networks better than a good meal shared together. Keep the conversations themed on getting to know each other, and make sure you get that information about your new hires. The point of eating together, even if it can sound unprofessional, is precisely that; everyone needs some time to stop being professional, and just be people talking and sharing a meal together. It helps encourage a healthy work and life balance, while showing the new hires that the ship they’re boarding is full of human people, just like them, not demanding robots that will set you on fire if you don’t meet the work quota.
