More and more we hear about the Emotional Quotient, or EQ, being just as important, if not more so, than the Intelligence Quotient, or IQ, when it comes to achieving great success in life and in the workplace. For those who are unfamiliar, the Emotional Quotient, also known as emotional intelligence, is the ability to be aware of and manage emotions or relationships. Research shows that people with a higher EQ tend to achieve more than people with lower EQ levels. These findings have, in a lot of ways, changed how many business owners hire and promote employees.
This Emotional Intelligence Session has been developed to raise awareness to the importance of the Emotional Quotient and the role that it plays in managing emotions and relationships and how it has become such a crucial factor in personal and professional success.
Objectives For Emotional Intelligence Training
This session will help you teach participants:
- Understand what emotional intelligence means
Before we can develop the EQ of participants they must first know what EQ means and what it pertains to. Here we will develop the definition and understanding that the participants have in regards to emotional intelligence.
- Recognize how our emotional health and physical health are related
In this part of the session, our participant will learn how our dominant emotions can have a positive or negative effect on our physical health. Having this knowledge on how having good emotional health will translate to good physical health as well will assist the team to improve in this area.
- Learn techniques to understand, use, and appreciate the role of emotional intelligence in the workplace
Here participants will learn that by effectively controlling our emotions we will be able to be more productive and efficient in the workplace. An interactive session will be provided in order to develop this skill and show how it can be used within the work environment.
- Understand the different emotions and how to manage them
Here we will discuss the many different emotions that one may have to deal with, and overcome, in the work environment. The proper management techniques and tools that will help participants keep their emotions in check will also be covered here.
- Create a Personal Vision Statement
Creating a personal vision statement will help participants to develop a standard on how they should conduct themselves day to day. This personal vision statement will help them revert back to their neutral, more productive, state whenever they start to feel that they are emotionally compromised. Here we will use the information we have developed through the session in order to create a personal vision statement for each participant.
- Understand the Difference between Optimism and Pessimism
The difference of whether you view the cup as half-full or half-empty is the same difference between optimism and pessimism. By understanding the difference between the two we will be able to transmute the mindset of the participants from being mostly negative to overwhelmingly positive. This alone, if internalized, will have a tremendous impact on the level of productivity, efficiency, and effectiveness within the organization in which they belong.
- Validate Emotions in Others
It can be encouraging to have our emotions validated by others. This is precisely why it is important that we have the skill to validate the emotions of others as well. This kind of attitude in the workplace will make employees feel valued. This will have a corresponding positive effect within the work environment that will enable members of the organization to perform at optimal levels consistently.
